3) Marquis: Who should wear your designs? And if you could make an outfit for a celebrity: who would it it be?

Jane Doe: My outfits are for everyone really! From the occasional fetish party clubber, to the hardcore latex fetishist, the burlesque dancer to the pure fashionistas.
Rubber is so flattering to any shape so as soon as you put it on all those little niggles that every woman has about their body just disappears! And a new dress
should make you want to go out and hit the nearest dance floor to show it off....or of course just stay home!
As for celebrities, obviously I would love to see Angelina Jolie in something of mine, though slightly more unusually perhaps I think Divine would look amazing in a Jane Doe outfit!

4) Marquis: I had seen your Geisha-Dresses on a show at TG -
really a spectacular! Are these special outfits interesting for many customers and what are your bestsellers?

Jane Doe: I get a lot of enquires about my show items, but people tend to go for the ready-to-wear range. The couture items tend to be on request only. My best sellers are the halter tops with appliques and the range of accessories like the eyepatches, hats and my favourite, the bow belt!

5) Marquis: We will see you a new fashion show by Jane Doe at
the German Fetish Ball in Berlin. What could the audience expect?

Jane Doe: Ahh, well I don't want to give too much away otherwise the surprise will be lost! Safe to say you will see a show that will catch your attention...I have some very big plans for my Berlin show.
I've always wanted to go to the Fetish Ball in Berlin, and I was so honoured to be asked to take part.
This will be a very important show for me as it will be the first time i will present Jane Doe to an international audience!

Interview from Marquis issue no.41,

Summer 2007

   1) Marquis: Jane Doe sounds very mysterious. How did the name come about?

Jane Doe: I had always been interested in the more alternative side of things! Even when I was a child I used to go to school dressed up in clothes from my dress-up box!
By the time I was 16 I already owned several latex
outfits (I bought my first one at 15), ran my own
fetish club and had started some modelling. At that
time most of my creative streak was directed towards art - sculpture in particular, but even then I had started experimenting with liquid latex. I never went to university but when I was 18 I was offered an apprenticeship for a latex clothing company and
couldn't wait to get started! Until I was 21 I worked on and off for several other latex clothing companies until I decided it was time to try making it on my own. I knew as soon as id started designing my own clothes id made the right decision. I chose the name Jane Doe as I wanted something pretty and feminine sounding yet also with a slightly darker edge to it. Though of course it is not actually my name, I cant tell you how many times people have called me Jane! It would be rather unfortunate for me if my parents had named me after an unidentified female corpse!

2) Marquis:  Your latex brand established itself very quick in the scene. What do you think: what are the reasons for this success?

Jane Doe: When I started Jane Doe I wanted to design a line of classic, easy to wear garments to start with. You know, they say every women should own that perfect pair of jeans or little black dress, well I believe that should be the same for a latex wardrobe! And with the appliques I can offer customers a more bespoke service where they can pick and choose exactly what they would like. I often applique designs the customer has sent me.
I love applique as the possibilities are endless,
there's so much you can do with it, and for me its
the most enjoyable part. And since id always done art it seemed like an obvious outlet for it!
In the beginning I knew the key to the success of any small business is getting the name out there, and for me the Internet has been an invaluable tool. Sites like Myspace and Livejournal have helped people become aware of Jane Doe all over the world and create a personable face to the company.
The fashion shows and magazine features have all
helped create a certain buzz around Jane Doe as well. I always like to all out when planning a show.
Though I think a lot of the success I have now is due to the amazing team I work with to produce the images and shows I have done. My hairdresser Robert Masciave, make up artist Carla Levy and photographer Hyperion share my vision of fashion and beauty and help bring my garments to life!
