Alternative Interview

Although the clothes are available off the peg the designer favours made to measure for it's creative potential "I love applique as the possibilities are endless, there's so much you can do with it, and for me it's the most enjoyable part. With the appliqués I can offer customers a more bespoke service where they can pick and choose exactly what they would like" and also because the garments will be tailored to fit: "everyone who wears something I make is effectively modelling for me! The same way I wouldn't send something down the catwalk that doesn't fit".

Such dedication to detail and quality, combined with the endless possibilities open to the customer with her bespoke designs have ensured that the Jane Doe brand is a popular choice, however the designer does not want to be pigeonholed or tied solely to an alternative market (she avoids nurse outfits or gimp masks which could associate her too firmly to the fetish scene) and has high ambitions for the future: "my dream goal has always been to get a Vogue cover!"

With such boundless energy and enthusiasm Nina Kate is bound to go far, and she has already established a place for Jane Doe as one of the most exciting new brands in the latex wear market today.

Having been a connoisseur of latex wear myself for several years now I consider myself pretty jaded and hard to please however I confess to being totally smitten when I saw one of Jane Doe's divine latex bow belts in a club recently being modelled by none other than the designer herself. Perfectly moulded from thick latex the bow belts highlight a woman's posterier almost like a bustle and are reminiscent in their ultra feminine effect of recent designs by couturiers such as Christian Lacroix. - I had to have it! Intrigued I decided to find out more..

The London based designer behind Jane Doe, Nina Kate, is a former fetish model herself who has graced the cover of Skin Two. Such a background and a four year apprenticeship in making rubber clothes have given the designer a good understanding of how it feels to wear latex and what is flattering to the female form (so far Jane Doe designs are only for girls - sorry boys!). Favouring a thin latex for her flirty standard dresses, which are sexily cut and very reasonably priced compared to other latex wear at around £85, these are an excellent option for fun club wear.

Nina Kate also uses a heavier thicker quality rubber for her well tailored jackets and of course the bow belts. Although the svelte designer believes that "rubber is so flattering to any shape so as soon as you put it on all those little niggles that every woman has about their body just disappear!" those with a curvier silhouette or more feint of heart may be advised to opt for the jackets and suits for a more flattering look.

Opting for simple well cut designs for her basic dresses and jackets the uniqueness of the clothes is in their customisation, in particular the extensive and imaginative use of applique designs such as cherries and skulls placed saucily over the breasts.
